The beginning of a long family story
1960
Marks the creation of Labrecque Plancher Décor. The company founded by Mr. André
Labrecque. He starts the business out of his van, traveling from customer to customer
with his samples of carpet and linoleum. At that time, Mr. Labrecque handles
everything, from sales to installation.
Word of mouth
is what will introduce the company to the families of Québec City. At that time, the business
goes by the name A. Labrecque Tuiles-Tapis.
From a van to a big-box store
1963
The growing success of A. Labrecque Tuiles-Tapis gives Mr. Labrecque the momentum he needs to fully launch his business, despite the risk it represents. His company is already enjoying strong growth, but that year marks a decisive turning point: he officially opens his very first store on rue Pierre-Bertrand.
A new
address
1968
The enthusiasm of Quebec City residents is such that, as early as 1968, the company has to relocate to meet growing demand. It then moves to 300, rue Marie-de-l’Incarnation.
The family's next generation
joins the company
1971
Even at that time, the next family generation begins to get involved. Three of his sons, Michel, Pierre and Jacques learn the trade of installation and sales, while Sylvie, his daughter, devotes herself to the decorating side.
The company moves to St-Vallier Ouest street
1986
The company name changes; previously known as André Labrecque Tuiles Tapis, it becomes Super Marché du Couvre-Plancher André Labrecque Inc. and settles at 688 rue St-Vallier Ouest.
Change of the company
name
1990
Mr. Labrecque decides to shorten his company's name. The business known for many years as Super Marché du Couvre-Plancher André Labrecque Inc changes to Couvre-Plancher André Labrecque Inc.
Buyout of Mr. Labrecque's
shares by his children
1994
Mr. Labrecque hands the family business over to three of his seven children. Michel, Sylvie and Pierre buy their father's company and all three take over its leadership. They set out to refresh the company's image. From that point on, they invest more in advertising and create a new logo.
Recognition for the founder
2009
In 2009, the founder, André Labrecque, received the Jean Martel recognition award presented by the Saint-Vallier Ouest Business Association (AGASO). This award honours the remarkable contribution of a business figure to the economic and social development of the Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood.
A new generation steps in
2013
Mr. Labrecque's grandchildren officially join the family venture. This transition marks a milestone in the company's history, ensuring the continuity of its expertise and founding values. Its regional reputation also continues to grow thanks to an increased advertising presence.
Celebrating 60 years in business
2020
A milestone year: the company celebrates its 60th anniversary. A renovated 10,000 sq. ft. showroom is unveiled, offering a modernized, immersive customer experience that lives up to the ambitions of the new generation.
Wind in our sails for the future
2025
Michel, one of Mr. Labrecque's sons, proudly represents the 2nd generation, while at his side, his three children embody the 3rd generation.
